Lorraine Witch Pitch - Technically Magic

Hi Everyone!

Here's a little about my pitch "Technically Magic" - A Scifi Magical Girl TV show! (Think of it like Digimon, Reboot, Madoka Magica mix meets Tron)

Tagline: 

Amity is the youngest virus counteragent, who uses her magic-like abilities to remedy technology problems. In this world technology is so advanced that the average person sees it as if it was magic.

Paragraph:

Witches can be good or bad, some use their abilities to fight malware while others use this ability to take advantage of people. Amity is a headstrong young counter agent in training who can sometimes be too cocky for her own good. After scoring high on a magical tech abilities test, she’s placed with 2 other agents to find out what is causing so many strong viruses are entering their city.

Characters:

Main 3 (Amity, Wifi and Throttle, C.S.) 

Antagonist (Jenma and Mystery Virus)

Amity:

Vessel: Amity knows a lot in theory but not in practice. She's very overconfident but also positive. Kinda like Hermoine-Luffy-Po Mix.

Angle: She's experiencing things in reality for the first time. Everything else she knows in theory from games/books/TV etc. She's been obsessed about learning about viruses.

Want/Need: Wants to be the best and to prove herself. Wants to be independent but actually needs friends to reach her goals.

Relationship: Main character.

Wifi

Vessel: Very no nonsense. and Technical minded like my friend Grace. Also like Astrid or Tigress.

Angle: She's placed in the same group as Amity and would also like to be by herself but sees everyone as a hinderance. She is often correcting people(and is right!). Can sometimes be sarcastic.

Want/Need: Wants peace and quiet to write her own programs. Needs friends who have lots of interesting ideas and ways to do things.

Relationship: Secondary character. Provides practical information and keeps everything grounded.

Throttle

Vessel: Takes things at her own pace. Very careful and safe. Kinda Marco, shihfu, Katara.

Angle: She takes things at her own pace. She was put in the group to get up to speed. However, she can also absorb lots of information and rarely forgets anything.

Want/Need: She wants to catch up to everyone. Needs friendship.

Relationship: Secondary character. A bit of comedic relief. (her jokes are only funny to herself)

CS

Angle: Small floating computer thing.

Vessel: Kinda like Kero from card captor sakura or Luna from Sailor Moon.

Jenma 

Angle: She's the group leader. who runs the virus eradication organization. Very strong and mysteriousssss.

Vessel: def like Satsuki Kiryuin or that dude from Inspector Gadget

Antagonist:

SCARY WEIRD VIRUS THINGS. 

Vessel: Kinda like Hexxus from Fern Gully.

Here are the main 3 girls!

Product: Webcomic with cool motion graphics or a small virus collecting app if I can get one of my gamedev friends onboard.

I feel like this idea is still pretty early on but this class is all about working through the rough drafts right?


Tagline -

After A city wide redistricting initiative leaves Emma as the only human student in a highschool

for space monsters she must learn to survive after the team captian of the schools "Combat

Sports Team" takes an interest in her.

 Paragraph -

 Emma has only ever wanted to keep their head down , get good grades, and go to a nice

college. However, a city wide redistricting initiative happens just before she starts her

freshman year now making them the only human student at a space monster high school. On

her first day  she is recruited by the captain of the “Combat Sports Team” to take the

position of SHADOW RANGER! Now She must face off against the colorful superhero teams

of other schools as a villain!

Horrorshow, Bizarre Bazaar, Party Quest, Shopkeeps


It's gone through a lot of names haha. This is a joint project between me and my husband Jason Dwyer! We often write and design together.

Tag line: Tag along with 4 spunky shopkeepers going on bizarre quests in a fantasy world of adventure.

Paragraph: Set in a charming  world brimming full of outlandish characters and extraordinary floral and fauna. We will be following the brave story of four heroes! Wait..wait no that's wrong, I meant Shopkeepers! In the beautiful city of Market Town that contains every shopkeeper imaginable. Market Town is port town with a " Dry" part of the city and the " Wet" part of the city that's underwater home to many sea-creatures. We will be exploring Market Town with Gilbert! A real fish out of water this one, he's a water dragon that's lived under the sea most of his life. His parents run a pawn shop, but Gilbert feels like that's a waste of his untapped potential. With his friends Shun, Paneri and Tato he's slowly finding what kind of shopkeeper he wants to be.

Characters:

Gilbert:  Our main character is a Water Dragon hailing from the more wetter side of Market Town. He's got a lot of charisma and always knows what joke to say to make you smile. He has a lot of adaptability which lends a problem to what sort of shop keep he wants to be....or if he even wants to be one! He goes through flavors of the day, wanting to be a professional wrestler, bomb shopkeeper, hero, villain and often his imagination runs wild. An extroverty very energized by being around people.

Shun: A very hardworking and disciplined butcher. She's taken over her mothers butcher shop so her parents can go to farther and more distant lands to hunt for more exotic meats. She is often a cynic at times and very stubborn. She never gives up on anything, especially people. She's an introvert and people can be draining on her at times. She's often made fun of for being half-werewolf/half flower elf but she shrugs it off most of the time, all she cares about is the quality of her work. 

Paneri: A bubbly sweet patisserie witch that's Shun's shop neighbor. She's always optimistic and has a beautiful spin on everything. Shun still is trying to get a handle on her magical abilities so sometimes things will go awry like her food suddenly being alive. She's very passionate but will also be swept up into the moment of things. She also has a fear of flying and wants to be accepted by the other witches. 

Tato: Shun's cousin, he's a wood elf hailing from the forests outskirting Market Town. He's a very calm, relaxed and the most patient out of the motley crew. As a wood elf he can manipulate wood to his will. So he carried a staff with him to turn into a sap bow whenever he needs be. Tato's job is a delivery man. He will tie packages to his arrow and launch them to their destination. He's very well traveled and often the book worm of the group. He will often try and avoid confrontation and will deflect with jokes if something is bothering him. 

Pizza Witch:  Runs of a pizzeria where she uses magic to make outstanding pizzas. Pizza witch is a social media junkie always trying to get recognition. It started as a way to get people to notice her pizza shop but she became very self-absorbed along the way. She often will bully Gilbert and his friends making snide remarks to her friends and constantly acts annoyed by them. Pizza witch is the youngest from a very big family and does all she can to get noticed by her family and her more successful siblings. She often talks in pizza related puns. 

Jonesy: The local door to door sales man. As slimy as he is crafty. He will often bother Gilberts crew into buying some of his wares or others. He has a really cheerful personality but is ten kinds of  troublemaker.

Pavin's Pitch

Tagline: 

A young man who isn’t able to grow a beard, in a tribe of wild bearded cavemen, is forced to find and hunt Coanee, the only living hairy dinosaur, in order to not be kicked out of his village forever.

Paragraph:

A wild tribe of hunting bearded cavemen roam the volcanic mountains of prehistoric Europe hunting dinosaurs. One young member, Gerry, isn’t able to grow a beard (or hunt well for that matter) is blamed for their recent shortage of dinosaurs. His cousin, Barron, convinces the whole village that their recent bad luck is caused by Gerry’s hairless face. Unless Gerry is able to hunt Coanee, the only living hairy dinosaur, he will be banned from the village forever and can not return unless he brings back the dinosaur. During the journey, Gerry almost dies from starvation but ends up finding Coanee and surviving after the hairy dinosaur provided him with plants and seeds to eat. Returning to the village, to Barron’s surprise, he reveals to Gerry that he sent him to find a made up Coanee because their powerful tribe leader, Sakson, planned to kill Gerry instead of kicking him out. Gerry teams up with Coanee to fight Sakson and his tiger bodyguards and defeats them. He tells them that he survived on plants and ended up becoming more powerful than Sakson. The whole village now eats plants and coexist with dinosaurs that no longer fear the cavemen.

Characters (still working on it):

Gerry: grew up not really into physical activities, but more interested in why things are the way they are.

Barron: very athletic, competitive and clever.

Coanee: almost dog, labrador, golden retriever but energetic like a happy seal.

Sakson: The tribe leader. very serious, to the point, doesn’t show much emotions, reserved and commanding.

Grandma: the wisdom and guide to Gerry. She is experience and seen it all. 

Armadillo: Gerry’s pet companion that keeps him company

Brian Wong PITCH

1)Tagline: An overzealous rookie cop is demoted and forced to join and coexist with a misfit group of peace loving environmentalists.

2)Danger girl meets baywatch with dolphins.

Rio Dolphin Force

An action comedy, set in the tropical region of Rio. An overzealous cop is demoted and put in a misfit group of environmentalists. The groups are at odds until they find out that they have a common enemy and need to work together in order to put a stop to the the evil biological experiments of the mega corporation

Terrorspace – Horror, Comedy (Horromedy?) Working Title. 


Tagline: Turns out that outer space is actually crazy horrifying, and humanity  realized they’re the small fish in a big, dark, heavily-armed pond.  When a young and  stubborn patrol agent, Atlas, is sent out to bring back a determined but crazy “space explorer”, they are trapped on the outside of humanity’s closed door.


Description: Humanity’s conquered space travel, and they’ve decided that it is a  bad, bad, terrible idea.  Turns out we are an incredibly un-advanced species compared to the rest of the galaxy, and the earth’s leaders have decided that there’s no point being an ant that willingly wanders under a magnifying glass. NASA is now just an organization dedicated to keeping people far away from space.  Atlas is a young patrol agent at the edge of the solar system tasked with bringing back a rouge but “I’m talking tinfoil on the head kinda crazy” space explorer, but ends up accidentally helping the errant explorer and co. straight through a wormhole in to alien territory. The team gets the first real glance at the big, new world, and although yeah, outer space is crazy scary, atlas is forced to confront the idea that there’s more to life than safety.

Angle –  Atlas’s main priority is safety and order, and she’ll pick deliberate ignorance over change any day. Her increasing discomfort with bureaucracy changes that over time, until she realizes that there is a different kind of safety in growing and advancing.

Wants- Structure and security
Needs – Open-mindedness, faith

Relationships -  The Javert to Isadora’s Valjean, but increasingly Isadora is there to open her eyes. Moral compass to her crew until they start to see things Isa’s way

Vessel – Rock Lee (Naruto), Charlie Kelly (Always Sunny in Philadelphia), This one
friend that I have who never, ever gives up?

Angle –  Isa is 100% driven by determination, and she’s pulled to space utterly by her desire to see the outside. She doesn’t even see that she might be breaking the law, because curiosity overcomes all else for her. She’s also just a pretty bizarre person in general, and has just no social skills whatsoever, despite her genius getaway abilities

Wants- To see what’s out there

Needs – To place trust in others

Relationships -  The foil to all of Atlas’s attempts, but increasingly she learns to place trust in her capability after atlas has a change of heart. Gets along well with atlas’s crew, gains people who believe in her for the first time in her life. A big, big problem to the TSA-NASA, but not taken seriously until she’s already out in space.

Supporting Characters

Unnamed alien monsters, or, horribleterriblethings.

Vessel- Some kinda Lovecraftian monster, main character from Journey

Angle- Is outwardly crazy terrifying, but is actually more of a curious counterpart than a threat. Like Isadora, driven by curiosity.

Wants- To know what these 3-dimensional alien things are

Needs – I don’t really know, but probably to not be so scary looking? Communication skills, I guess

Relationships: Along with the rest of all outer space, humanity’s exact nightmare. But actually pretty cool. They eventually get along with the crew ok?

TSA Agent #89207- Eli

Vessel – A friend of mine from high school, The main character from Turbo? The Human guy?, David (Lilo and Stich)

Angle –  Eli is easily taken advantage of, and eager to do right by others. His determination and heart

Wants- Others to be happy

Needs – Courage

Relationships -  #2 on Atlas’ TSA team. His kindness and trusting nature represent the true human cost to Atlas. He is the first to realize that Isadora might be right, and a big factor in getting Atlas to change her mind.

TSA Agent #60404- Asif

Vessel – Sokka, (Avatar) That bomb guy  (Atlantis) My friend who can just keep his cool at all times, Shaggy (Scooby Doo)

Angle –  Really casual, along for the ride. But also pretty no-nonsense, and can cut to the chase.

Wants- To get the most fun out of life

Needs – Some focus.

Relationships -  #3 on Atlas’ TSA team.  He’s not really in to causing trouble, and is just as horrified as the rest when they cross over. Comedic foil to Atlas, pretty deadpan in general.

NASA-TSA Lead Hayes

Vessel- Commissioner Gordon (Batman), That old guy from Law and Order

Angle- Well intentioned-but close minded. Regrets not taking the situation seriously, increasingly desperate.

Wants- Order

Needs – Flexiblilty

Relationships- Views Atlas and crew as somewhat useless, but implores Atlas to think of humanity after they leave the safe zone. Antagonistic but with some good reasoning.

I was actually thinking about this project as being a webcomic the whole time, mostly because of its subtle visual horror nature. I know that doesn't necessarily come across this first pass.

Andrew Freire- Class 1 HW

So I did one pitch and then realized I liked another idea of mine better- so here's the newer one first:

Pitch 2: 

Tagline: When the North Star is stolen from the night sky, a young girl must go on an adventure to retrieve it and discovers her destiny is not written in the stars.

World: The world of this story is the night sky. Each character is a constellation, made up of stars.

Paragraph: Little Dipper is a young girl who lives in a kingdom of Star-people. One day, her North Star goes missing. The town Oracle has a vision that a dark being is stealing all the stars in the night sky, and a prophecy  foretells that the greatest Hero in the night sky will vanquish the Star-thief. So the kingdom gathers it’s greatest heroes- Perseus, Orion, and the Big Dipper to hunt the star-thief and destroy him. Little Dipper accompanies her older brother and acts as his Squire. Along her journey she discovers that she too can be a hero despite her small size, and that she is not destined to be a lowly squire, like the village has prescribed her to be. She ultimately defeats Cetus, the Star-thief with her cunning, and proves that she is the greatest Hero of all.

6 Characters

Little Dipper

Vessel: Ang, from Avatar the Last Airbender

Angle: Little Dipper is one of the smallest beings in the night sky, so the world seems big to her. As a result, she sees things from a different angle and has to use her intellect to her advantage, instead of brute strength like her brother. Although she is the smallest person in the village, she is the brightest.

Want: To be a great Squire to her brother and get her North star back.

Need: To realize that she can be the one to change the universe

Relationship: Little Dipper is the prophesied to serve as a squire to the big Dipper- her older brother.

Big Dipper:

Vessel: Patrick Star

Angle: Big Dipper is one of the biggest constellations in the night sky so most people seem small to him. He tends to overlook details and be a little dense.

Want: To prove he is the Great Hero in the prophecy.

Need: To realize there is power in intellect, and not just brute strength.

Relationship: Big Dipper is little Dipper’s older brother so he is very protective of her. Although he is large and brutish, he has a soft spot for her.

The Oracle:

Vessel: Yubaba from Spirited Away

Angle: The Oracle is a fortune teller so she sees people in terms of their past and their future.

Want: To restore order to the universe

Need: To realize her prophecies are not always true?

Relationship: The Oracle is the one who foretells that Little Dipper will help the Hero of the Universe restore balance. She is sort of like a spiritual guide.

Cetus:

Vessel: The whale from Pinnochio. No-Face from Spirited Away?

Angle: Cetus is always hungry so he constantly is looking for more things to eat.

Want: To eat all the stars in the universe and become the largest being.

Need: To learn to control his appetite.

Relationship: Cetus is the antagonist and the star-thief who has been eating/stealing everyone’s stars.

Orion:

Vessel: Khan from Mulan

Angle: Orion is a big hunter who is very strong and intelligent. He is particularly upset because Cetus stole his belt-buckle, leading his pants to fall down and embarrass him.

Want: To hunt Cetus.

Need: To step back and let others do their job. Orion considers himself the leader but he needs to let others lead sometimes..

Relationship: Orion is a hunter so he is good at tracking Cetus.

Perseus:

Vessel: Kid Flash from Young Justice

Angle: Perseus is a hormone-raging teen so he is concerned with impressing the ladies and looking good. He is intelligent, and charming, but mostly concerned with winning the heart of Princess Andromeda

Want: To impress Princess Andromeda by slaying Cetus

Need: To take his job seriously because lives are at stake.

Relationship: Perseus journeys with the others to hunt Cetus. He is the comedic relief element to the story.

Product: I think this could make a fun video game as you could shoot stars to defeat enemies, or solve puzzles like building a constellation bridge with your stars and the crossing.

Pitch 1: "Curses"

Tagline:
A cynical treasure hunter is stuck haunted by an affable ghost after he steals a golden idol which holds the key to a city of riches.

Paragraph:
Treasure hunter Jack Stone goes on an expedition to find “the Heart of the Jungle” a rare golden idol which supposedly has a map to a lost city that is full of lost treasure. Upon stealing the idol, he realizes it is cursed and he is now stuck with a ghost named Shu. They are then intercepted by a rival treasure hunter who steals the idol for nefarious purposes.  Shu and our protagonist must work together to find the lost city first. Jack then has to choose between returning the idol to its rightful home, or selling it for a vast amount of riches.

Jack Stone

a. Vessel: Indiana Jones; Steve Martin from Planes, Trains, and Automobiles

b. Angle- raised by a world-renowned treasure hunter. He was always taught to get the money and get out. Very cynical and untrusting. He has to be cautious in his line of work.

c. Want: to find the lost city and become rich. Need- to follow his heart and do the right thing.

d. This is the protagonist. His lesson will be to learn to follow his heart, so he starts off being selfish, greedy, and cynical- the opposite of the man he will become.

Shu

a.     Vessel: John Candy from Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, Olaf from Frozen

b.     Angle- Shu has been stuck in a golden idol for thousands of years so he is just happy to have a friend and see the world again. He is also the guardian of the golden idol so he must make sure it does not fall into the wrong hands.

c.      Want: to make a friend and return the golden idol to the lost city. Need- to move onto the afterlife with his family.

d.     Shu is the comedic element to balance out Jack’s seirous side. He also serves as a conscience for Jack, since he does not really have one.

Dr. Valdis

a.     Vessel- Slugworth from Charlie and the Chocolate factory

b.     Angle- Valdis is only concerned with gaining large amounts of wealth. He is a cold, cool collector of many stolen artifacts and has even stolen priceless pieces of art from public museums. He is obsessed with collecting and thievery and perhaps collects treasure to fill the void in his heart.

c.      Want: To collect the world’s greatest treasures. Need: to realize no amount of wealth or treasure will bring him happiness.

d.     Valdis is the antagonist and serves to show the audience what Jack would end up like if he continues down the path he is on.

Karen Hughes

a.     Vessel: Joan Wilder from Romancing the stone, Ellie from Up

b.     Angle: Karen is proper and sweet. Her passion is writing, and unlike Stone, she always follows her heart, not her mind.

c.      Want: To write a piece on the world’s greatest Treasure Hunter. Need: To realize life is not all fun and games. The jungle is dangerous and one needs a sharp mind to survive.

d.     Karen is a romantic whereas Stone is cold, calculating, and cerebral. She’ll have to soften his hard shell and he’ll have to harden her and teach her survival in the wild.

Richard Stone

a.     Vessel: John Cleese

b.     Angle: Richard Stone is Jack’s father. He taught his son treasure hunting as a bonding experience but was hard on him, because one must be tough to survive treasure hunting. Richard turned to treasure hunting to distract himself from the death of his wife (Jack’s mother)

c.      Want: To become the world’s greatest treasure hunter and pass the family trade onto his son. Need: To accept his son as he is and love him regardless of what he ends up doing.

d.     Richard is a mentor to Jack in a way because he teaches him how to survive. He is also an antagonist however, because his drive to find treasure exceeds his love for his son’s actual happiness.

Scout

a.     Vessel: my dog

b.     Angle: Scout is Jack’s dog. He is a good boy and likes to go on adventures with his master. He also likes to chase his own tail and dig up treasures and bones and stuff.

c.      Want: To be a good dog. Need: ???

d.     Scout is like a best friend to Jack. He is probably the only thing Jack cares about other than himself so he serves as a character for Jack to talk to when no ones around and to show the audience that Jack is capable of compassion.

4.     What’s your product? I think this series could easily be a comic or web series. There are plenty of legendary treasures so it could be easily serialized. I think the golden idol would also make a cool toy, or action figures.
